The Arrowsmith Program is a key pillar of the learning support program at UWC Thailand and has been facilitating the Cognitive Enhancement Program since 2015. Our students enjoy an inclusive UWC Thailand experience with participation in the range of classes, CCA’s and events available.

The Arrowsmith Program is based on the philosophy that it is possible to address specific learning difficulties by identifying and strengthening weak cognitive capacities. The Arrowsmith Program first identifies areas of learning strength and weakness within the student through careful assessment in order to create an individualised learning profile. It then utilises the science of neuroplasticity to design a programme of individualised exercises that target the student’s precise areas of weakness. The programme can offer potentially life-changing results for students with a range of learning difficulties, and has benefitted students that have experienced difficulty with reading, writing, mathematics, comprehension, logical reasoning, problem solving, visual and auditory memory, non-verbal learning, attention, processing speed and dyslexia.

The ultimate goal is to enable students to become effective, confident and self-directed learners for life and to enable students to achieve their goals of academic and career success. UWC Thailand International School introduced the Arrowsmith Program in 2015, and is currently the first and only school in Thailand to offer it. The programme is suitable for students aged 9 to 18 with a small class size catering to multi-age learners. For more information, please contact arrowsmith@uwcthailand.ac.th

There are around 100 billion cells that make up the brain. These neurons alter in structure and function throughout a person’s lifetime, in response to training and experience. Since the 19th century, neuroscientists have been researching and identifying different areas of the brain, understanding that different areas of the brain work together to carry out complex mental activities.

The brain is also able to physically alter in response to stimulation, developing new synaptic connections. The Arrowsmith Program follows the philosophy that a learner is not ‘fixed’, and offers its students a variety of targeted cognitive exercises that result in increased mental capacities and strengthened learning abilities. Once this need has been addressed, the individual’s ability to perform complex tasks (reading, writing, mathematics, conceptual comprehension) will also be improved.
