The UWCT Class of 2021 faced an unusually challenging application process this year. However, our students are in the fortunate position to have each gained admission to university, and once again, those with financial need and/or academic merit, were granted substantial scholarships. Many of our students are thinking about or planning a gap year before starting university, something we strongly support. Several of the students are still in the process of deciding where to matriculate so this data is not complete as yet.

We can though state that as of 30 April 2020, the Class of 2021 has so far been offered $983,270 in scholarships for the first year to universities or colleges the students are most likely to matriculate to, and $1,996,000 in total scholarships for the first year from all acceptances. It is a remarkable achievement by each and every student, and something we can be proud of as a school that our students are provided educational opportunities that allow them to apply to and be accepted and funded when needed, to the university or college that best suits them. This includes small liberal arts colleges some of us may not have heard of, to the most well-known and competitive universities around the world.

They are an exceptional group of young people who we have been privileged to work with and support as they begin this next phase of their educational journey. Our students have prevailed in a difficult year which has resulted in various changes in admission processes and statistics, our students were part of a greatly increased applicant pool vying for the same number of seats in university as previous years. For example, because most universities and colleges in the USA and elsewhere in the world did not require SAT standardized tests for admission this year, applications to most schools greatly increased. We have not heard of a single university or college that had a decrease in applications. On the contrary, most schools we have been in touch with had increases of 25-40% and in some cases, nearly a 100% increase in applications. As a result, we had an increased waitlist acceptance rate than in previous years, and this particular statistic was noticed across the UWC network.
