24-HOUR RACE

The 24 Hour Race is the largest, student-run global movement to end Slavery. Students volunteer to organize or run races in cities across the globe, held in Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Funds raised through our races support anti-slavery NGOs to create lasting impact. We are excited to be the first to host the 24 Hour Race in Thailand, located in Phuket.24 Hour Race Thailand is a marathon run event hosted by students in UWC Thailand that will take place in the Thanyapura track field from 18th to 19th January 2020. The aim of 24 Hour Race is to raise awareness about human trafficking wherein every 24 hours, 5500 children, women and men become victims of slavery. This event is then organized to “Run for The Freedom of Others” and all the profits will be donated to non-profit organizations like Child Rescue Nepal. More information about The 24 Hour Race can be found by visiting the official site 24hourrace.org

9:00 am January 18th to 9:00am January 19th, 2020

WHY SHOULD YOU RUN?

What is the 24-Hour Race?

There are 3 different races to choose from; 24-hour race, 2.4-hour race and 24-minute race (only available for youth). Runners have to set a team of 8 for the 24-hour race or a team of 4 for 2.4-hour race where this can be all adult team, a youth team or a mix of both. The rule is that at least one member of the team has to be on the track at all time for 24 hours, 2.4 hours or 24 minutes, therefore team members can have different shifts or make a plan which best suits them. If you are an individual and wish to join, we will allocate you to the other 7 individuals to form a team. There will be food, water and a race pack provided for all runners who are participating.

The first 24 Hour Race on the 19th to the 20th of January 2018 was success. The 2018 event  raised more than 60,000 baht from racing teams and donations. These funds were donated to Child Rescue Nepal who where able to buy tables, chairs, bookshelves and more learning equipment for students to gain an amazing opportunity to receive a quality education that all children deserve to.
This year, the 24 Hour Race organising team cannot wait to raise the awareness of human trafficking and also the funds to donate and help children all over the world. We then encourage you to run for the freedom of others and run for equality in humanity. Following the UWC mission and values, we will “Unite people, nations, and culture for peace and a sustainable future”, and adding to that, we will make sure that all children will receive the help and live the life they all deserve.
